Guiding you through the new Mercedes A-class?


In the late 90s, the premium car brand Mercedes Benz unveiled its subcompact executive car Mercedes A-class. It is considered as one of the most significant segments in the Mercedes cars and is affectionately called as Baby Benz by its fans. Initially launched as a four-door hatchback in 1997, Baby Benz has been renewing itself over the years. In the markets that the A-Class is or has been sold in, it has been represented as the entry-level model of Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz currently offers only the A-Class hatchback in India. However, the German carmaker might introduce the new A-Class luxury sedans here later in 2018 or 2019. According to a popular automobile magazine, new Mercedes a class price in Delhi is set at approx. INR 31.96 lakhs.


The company claims that the fourth-generation Mercedes A class car has been revamped from the ground up. For 2019, Mercedes-Benz is planning on launching a sedan version of the A-Class hatchback.

The Mercedes A class is 120mm longer, 16mm wider and the wheelbase has also gone up by 30mm. The longer wheelbase of the car allows more space for people and things. The luggage capacity has grown to 370 litres -29 litres more than before. Regarding design, it gets a broader grille where the famous three-pointed star rests, slimmer headlamps and larger air dams that grants the car an aggressive look.


The cabin inside the Mercedes A class is fresh and modern. The setup provides with three different screen options: two 7-inch screens, one 7-and one 10.25-inch screen and two 10.25-inch screens (depending on variant), one of which acts as the instrument cluster while other acts as the infotainment screen. The dashboard continues to get circular AC vents; however, after restyling, they feature an air turbine-like design. Surrounded with modern gadgetry, the new A-Class also includes 64-colour ambient lighting system and multi-contour seats with climate control. 

The most striking feature of the new A-Class hatchback its MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. With the blend of AI technology, the screen provides a navigation display with augmented reality technology plus intelligent voice control with natural speech recognition. The new A-Class offers three engine options: 1.4-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.4-litre petrol engine produces 163PS/250Nm while the 2.0-litre petrol is good for 224PS/350Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel variant produces 116PS of power and 260Nm of torque. The engines come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; however, the 2.0 -litre petrol engine also offers a 6-speed manual gearbox.
